The Bergeron/Jones Incident

I didn't want to make any assumptions on my opinion of the hit on Patrice Bergeron until I saw the video. I finally saw it late last night, and it was definitely a hit from behind. Some people will say "he had his momentum already going into the hit before Bergeron turned his back", but you should still be able to hold up when you see his position become dangerous like that. I believe Randy Jones will be suspended, I assume 4-5 games tops. There was absolutely no intent whatsoever, and Jones does not have a history of offenses. Bergeron suffered a broken nose and a concussion, so it's good to hear he is okay. Hits like that can be truly scary. Here is the video if you haven't seen it:

I agree completly, 4-5 games seems to fit the crime. I mean lets be honest, did was in no way, shape or form comparable to Down-Syndrome's or Boulerice's hit.

God, if you asses had your way, there would be no hitting in the NHL, and the boards would be lined with pillows and memory foam. THESE GUYS GET PAID TO PLAY THE GAME! They assume the risks when they step out on the ice. Boulerice's actions were suspension worthy. Not Downie's, and certainly not Jones's. All you guys are whiny little bitches. Ohhh, not enough scoring, lets make the goalies smaller! Ohhh too much violence, lets discourage fighting! WUSSIES! Get off your knees, you're blowing the game!

Anonymous,

Is the risk of not being able to walk again worth the money they make? You can find a happy median where it can be a physical game, without crossing the line. Hits like this and Downie's should not be tolerated. I for one think Downie's suspension was too long, but he needed to be punished. Hits like these have no place in the game, give me a clean open ice hit, and I'll respect that. That is what the game is all about, not scary hits from behind like this.
